right bit confused here don't have this product available but on data sheet it says 100% waterproof and on tiling section says 100% water resistant

so what is it any body does it absorb water

hmm, I always thought it was waterproof, unlike hardie board that allows water to pass through it. I've never used it myself tho' Jay.

click on link and first page says waterproof click on interiors and it says water resistant/////////////

just curious as in some posts they say just waterproof the joints but if it soaks up water it may be an issue as its not waterproof

I use it Jay. Once u drill it though it ain't waterproof :smilewinkgrin:. It say's it's 100% water resistant so u gotta asume that its waterproof.

100% water resistant doesn't necessarily mean it's waterproof tho'. it could just mean that water will not damage it, altho' it could still pass through it.

It is the same as hardi, as in it will not break down on contact with water but if constant wetting then water can travel and a vapour membrane should be used.. as you have to with hardi as well..

Personally if wet room etc then i tank them..

read a lot on here that say just tape joints and its waterproof but cant seem to find out if it is ,if so it would be a good product

This is what I picked up from a PDF I have

'Resistant to mould and mildew,
Aquapanel will not deteriorate
in water. It retains its strength even
if fully immersed.'

I have used it on a bathroom floor (that had no deflection) I liked it but I prefer NMP for overboarding

Jay, the mfrs play a lot of word games here with their products for tile. The trade name "DUROCK" has become universal for all backer boards, and so many people in the trades have come to assume that it is waterproof I have to usually argue with architects, gc's, etc that the stuff isn't waterproof at all. It is only unaffected by contact with water.

As Phil and others have said, if in a shower, it automatically gets tanked.

hi Rob cant get it locally but the way you read about it in some posts it sounds like the ducks guts as far as bathroom lining goes so thought id have a bo peep but as per usual they praised it up on the pdf so asked the question on here sounds like a cement sheet copy that you pay more for the name (and yes always waterproof baths showers wall and floors)
be interesting to see if doug gets a reply

I was always under the impression that Hardie and Aqua absorbed water, but held it and released it slowly back out, so thanks for clarifying guys
