Depends on the tile, how big the area is, how much cutting needs to be done, condition of the walls/floor. Quite a difficult one to answer.

I know it's a bit of a tough question as there's many things to consider. Say between 16-20m2 bathroom walls. Bath in, 1 window, bit of boxing in. Only asking as I've started tiling for a new bloke and he expects it tiled and grouted in 2 days. Is that about right and I'm just slow or is it not enough time?

You can say I'm slow if you want lol.

16/20 m2 bathroom in 2 days with bog standered ceramics is about right...

is it site work?

tend to take me time a bit on private jobs, more important to get it right ,keep the place tidy etc

Thats two days tiling and a morning grouting in my book.
Even if you finished tiling on the morning of the second day the adhesive really wouldn't be dry enough.
Stick to your guns on this, no point rushing it.

No, it's domestic. I'm doing them in 2 1/2 - 3 days. Last day grouting, I've been doing it in my own time ignoring his expectation of 2 days. Customers always over the moon which I feel is the important thing.

Where I started I was told 8m2 is a good day but here they want about 12m2. Just wondered if I was slow.

Site work expect to tile a kitchen and bathroom splash back tile and grout 1 day average 16-20sq a day depends on walls ext .... Fail to prep prepare to fail ;-)

Also it's not about how slow you are it's about getting the job right first time ;-) speed will come

I tile as many metres as I can do in a day. It could be 20m2 in a day if the walls or floors are perfect, on another day it might only be 5 if the walls need a lot of work or it's listellos and mosaics set into a field tile as a border.

What I don't do is rush the job and end up making a mess. Do it right - Do it once!!!!

average over a year I would say is 10-12m2 a day on ceramics ,porcelain 6-8m2 and large format stone 3-5m2 so 2 days is about right

It's domestic, it's usually ceramic or porcelain but doesn't matter to him.

I'm getting them done within 3 days, I was taught to not grout the same day so usually day 3 is just grouting.

Expected a 21m2 marble bathroom done in 3 days, brick bond, French opus pattern on the floor and feature wall had marble brick mosaics, 1 sheet wide bath to ceiling. I obviously took longer lol!!

dont worry your speed is great, if the customers are happy thats what you want!...the job gets done faster but not as good, hence no more work for you my friend!!....a good tip is, do as many full tiles as possible and leave the cutting to last!....i always do this especially on floors!!, last floor i did was 14m2, 1st day was full tiles, second cuts and grout 🙂....used flexi rapid set so no need to wait another day to grout 🙂

why do you think it is better to leave all the cuts until the next day ?

Ok thanks everyone, started to doubt my capability but feel like I'm doing alright. Well.. I've never had a callback so touch wood.

Another quick question, after reading through a few post I've noticed a lot of negativity towards using pva. What's the problem with this and what should be used instead?

Hi guys the reason i mainly do cuts next day on floors is for speed 🙂....rather than up and down up and down measure cut...a basic square/rectangle room seems better to cut the next day....this works best for me anyways!...each to there own 🙂.....if i am working with someone then i put cuts in on same day like, just depends on each situation like!....sometimes u have to do certain cuts before u can continue!

Couldn't think of anything worse than coming in on the last day and having a full room of cuts to do. Can't see any speed advantage either, you're just prolonging it.

Depending on the tile, I aim for 10 to 12 per day. If theres boxed in areas including windows, I reduce to suit. That includes removing & re-fitting toilet etc. On walls, I do my cuts when I come to them, on floors, depending on size, I'll do my cuts the following day to give me plenty of time for adhesive to set to allow the toilet to be fitted by the end of the day

I used to work on a very rough rule of thumb of 6sq/m of finished work a day (that's grouted). That'll be an 18sq/m bathroom tiled, grouted and silconed in 3 days. Usually and earlyish day on day three.

I always cut as I went. Nothing worse than cutting the next day and finding you need to move a set tile by 1mm.

I get 2 days to do a 7m2 kitchen floor a 3m2 bathroom floor and 17m2 of bathroom walls, fortunately the pot life of the adhesive is minutes instead of hours, thats not negotiable either as second fix plumbing happens the day after i finish ,not my rules but what i have to do to get paid.

Mz30 thats a hell of a lot of meterage your covering!, cant be many cuts with all that, so basically in 2 days your doing, 27m2 all tiled and grouted?....u must reply on red bull lol!!

I wish the werent that many cuts mate on the walls thers a shedload,to be fair the floors are easy 2 to 3hrs max to tile an hour to grout, gives time to get a decent start on the walls.

Wish i could drink red bull ,but caffeine cripples me.

Housing association or council im guessing? I feel they ask too much to be done, especially if your on a day rate, rather than meterage.. But work is work and if your getting it done in line with their schedules and getting paid then your sorted.

I dont have a specific meterage to get done in a day. I just work at a steady pace. If at the end of the day ive tiled alot then I pat myself on the back lol.

Everyone works at different speeds and every job is different in complexity so you cant really give an idea.

yes mate housing association, but using porcelanosa tiles so a higher spec than the standard 6x6 white ,tbh i dont really find it that hard,am usually finshed handy most days,if it was difficult i wouldnt do it.

It's amazing the metres you can put down when doing the same thing day in day out. Used to do prefab 25m bathroom pods, walls, borders and diagonal floors. Perfectly squarely engineered so all cuts identical. We were tiling one each for 2.30, grouting the previous day's work and in the house before 4pm every day. Miss those days but it was mind numbingly boring.
