Hi I am tiling over a woden floor with plywood down first. I have seen a adhesive for a very good price at B & Q £8.99 per 25 kg bag. The problem is it says not suitable for wooden floor. Is this because it as no adative mixed in? Meaning if I add an adative it will be OK.

Are all rapid set adhesives without adative not suitable for wood floors? I.e once adative is added it amkes it suitable.

I have done this in the past but cant remember if the adhesive I used specifically stated not for wood floor. I know alot of companies just try and make you buy the expensive pre-made stuff.

Thank you

Tony

Hi

Thank you for your replies. I understand where you are coming from but I have used this adhesive in the past, but in a kitchen on a cocrete floor. It did have a good consistancy and have not had any problems with it coming up yet (layed one year ago).

I am laying on to P5 chipboard and the 6mm Plywood screwd down at 300mm centres.

The main reason for my post was as the bag does not recomend this for wood is this just because it does not have the adative in. Meaning if I ad the admix it would make it suitable for wood?

For example I am a car painter by trade and we can not paint over soft rubber without a flexible adative but once adding this the paint is suitable to paint soft rubber.

Cheers

Hi have as they are the floor boards which I fitted to the whole of the new floor. In My old house this is what I did over tounge and groove boarding and never had a problem in 8 years. Are you sure as I have read that its 6mm over the chipboard flooring. I dont want to make the bathroom floor to high so I get a nice join from tile to carpet wood etc.

sometimes you can tile straight onto the floorboards if you haven't any deflection are you sure of what deflection you have or are you going to take the risk ? also 6mm ply unless its stuck to the floor will have a certain amount de-lamination affect not the best way to put it
