Hi folks,
I'm not a great one for posting a lot but after reading all the posts on previous DS Tiling query I felt the urge to post. Today I visited a potential customer who wants to lay 600 x 600 dark grey B&Q porcelain tiles on top of existing cream porcelain tiles. She feels cream tiles get dirty too easy but I think the darker tiles will show dirt easier, not my problem. After reading posts in DS Tiling it has certainly put the wind up me! Not sure I want to do the job. However if i do quote and get the job i would need to degrease the existing floor to clean it. I think the floor should then be primed with an acrylic primer, would you lot agree?

I have used cream coloured B&Q porcelain tiles before on 2 occasions and the job turned out fine. Never cleaned or sealed tiles at all! Not saying this was the best thing to do but I got away with it . Not sure now, can't take the risk. What are your views guys?

Work gets a bit scarce after Christmas here so I'm thinking I could do with the work in Jan! Lets hear what you have to say, all the best lads.

I only had the cream B&Q large porcelain tiles put down in my new kitchen 2 weeks ago. I got a bit of a fright at first after tilers left as it appeared they were staining badly and I hadnt treated them.. anywa I washed them gently with an industrial aggressor I happened to have and they cleaned up well. I treated them as soon as they were dry and I have been using an electric car polisher/buffer on them every few days and they are beautiful...like a mirror. Tiler just make sure you clean as you go along especially after grouting. Cheers

Can they not be took up..?..

Thanks for your response Dave. They are reluctent to take tiles up because of the extra cost and are prepared to live with the extra height. I have to ring with an overall price this morning and I suspect when they hear it they a re likely to have a fit! Tell you the truth its a job I would rather not get but their son is a friend of my son and I said I would take a look.

If you lay the tiles on top, are they going to be able to get their appliances back under the worktop? That might sway them, as the only other thing you'll be able to do, is tile up to the appliances (assuming they have some in there, and not a utillity room), and every time they need to get them out, they'll have to smash some tiles up!?!

Good point Beanz, I checked and they have enough space so I can't sway them that way. Thanks, Ian.
