On another thread Matt from TG hoped his staff didn't take back handers hence this thread. I always work on the premise, you scratch my back etc, but probably not always the case for some suppliers.
Do we know any storys lads?

Not so much in the money sense but deffo in the " tile my bathroom and that big contract is yours" type of thing. I have seen a lot of that in my years, I guess i just have been accustomed to it now. Its hardly new is it ?

..it's a bit tricky to talk about it without 'naming names'..but we all know what goes on I think!...put it this way, there's PLENTY of firms out there tendering at SPECIFIC prices for certain people on certain developments...all about who you know..and what they tell you to charge!:lol:

i have done favours before and it has backfired also, after doing a few kitchens for a local company the owner has me to tile his hearth and internal porch which i charged him pennies for,a few jobs later he started getting really cheeky with me and narrowly avoided me wrapping a spirit level round his fat baldy head, even his mate the plumber was horrified by the way he was trying to treat me so i tend to stay away from that sort of scratch your back scenario, however if someone is getting me a fair bit of work i tend to pass on wee gifts such as bottles of whiskey(my mate is a manager of bowmore and i get £30/40 bottles of 18 year olds for about £12)

when you work for yourself you write your own rules - when you work for a company you have T&Cs, most companies its forbidden to take / make bungs in any way ... i worked for an American company for ages - ref T&C's and corporate conduct - guys - you havnt lived! :yikes:

How many false promises over the years, the standard one is if you do a cheaper price on this job I a lot of other work, yer right:thumbsdown:

Now thats handy to know :8::thumbsup::lol:

giving a gift in appreciation for work passed on is common practice and not to be confused as giving a backhander

we all know what goes on and how contracts are sometimes won

I know my pockets are clean and thats enough for me
