If there is a height issue from using the 12mm ply then you can use 6mm backerboard but he floor needs to be solid and not a lot of deflection....Stick it down with flexi adhevsive and then when dry put some screws into it with appropiate washers....then it will be fine to tile too......
You can get Hardie-backers boards and the fixings from CTD.....they may have to order these in , ,just depends upon the store.....They also sell all ther materials you will need to do the floor with......good luck and welcome to the forums fergie.........
