i was listening in on the debate on radio 2 today, some phoned in and says he always drives in the middle lane on the motorway, his reason was so that others can enter and exit the motorway using the inside lane:mad2:. if i was stuck behind him i'd be flashing my lights and giving him the middle finger 'salute' what a idiot

Well yes, if the road is clear .. don't really come across those much, though... and it's not carved in stone, is it, staying in the middle lane at 70, but I tend to, rather than weaving in and out. I like 70, it's a good speed, and when I want to relax and take it slower I stay in the left lane and don't mind dawdling behind someone, round Birmingham is just horrible, so glad I don't live there.

Thanks Sandy! I think not!
it is wrong to stay in the middle lane if the highway code says otherwise, and yes, if people are overtaking you when you're doing 70 then they're speeding, but we all do it (ask richard 365  ) it's not excessive doing 80 on the motorway when it's dry and not too busy

Apparently it's the speed + 10%, anything over that and you'll get pulled. So 77ish on the motorway isn't really questionable. Most of the first lane from stoke to birmingham has lorry tracks in it and I tram-line in them in the scooby because of the low profile tyres. You can let go of the steering wheel and it'll follow the track for most of the way. I tend to avoid going in the first lane if it's going to tramline. That's just quality of the roads I suppose.

I drive at 65 in lane 1 of the motorway or dual carriageway. This means I won't get caught speeding and I can legitimately undertake the idiots that are not doing 70 in the middle lane, plus I can overtake the slow restricted lorries in lane 1. I know how to drive properly and try hard to drive properly and just ignore all those idiots that don't drive properly in whatever way. I know I won't get fined under these new measures. :yesnod:
