Arrived at work this morning and got a text from a well known S Yorks tile shop. Basically it read
'********** now stock 9mm ply at £7.50 for a 4x4 sheet.............'
I replied with the usual 15mm WBP or marine ply only if you insist on using ply. I then pointed out hardie backer and marmox boards. In the last year I'm seeing more and more failures involving UHF and ply.
He then replied they are bringing in a kerakoll addy and weber SPF can be used with 9mm ply anyway:mad2: and are stocking 9mm as most tilers seem to use it. He also added the kerakoll addy has a 'p' rating which means its tested and suitable for ply.
I replied I'd be astonished if kerakoll recommend 9mm ply. I recentely saw a failure with what looked like bal elastomeric addy, Ufh and 6 or 9mm ply.
Now the problem I have and I'm sick of it, is shops like this and tilers around me running around saying 'yeah 9mm is fine etc' and then I come along saying 'no it isn't. Who they going to believe. I doubt I'm the only one however.
Am I going insane or what?
