Basin and toilet in or basin and toilet out. What's it to be.

Just finished a full bathroom, walls and floor, customer only decided she wanted the floor doing 2 days into the job but that's another story. Anyhow, I whipped the toilet and basin out tiled the walls and the floor and refitted. I know there may be problems with pipework when refitting but what is the concensus among you guys about the best way to go about it. Cutting around a sink OK not too bad but around a toilet cistern it looks crap and the lid never fits unless you leave a gap for it, which also looks rubbish. Would be interested what everyone else does to get the best result.

Always best removing and tiling, then re-fitting.

take sink and wc out,if you dont its a bit of a nightmare and time consuming.If you do keep in ,loosen them both and try and slip tiles down the back.:wink_smile:

Its nice when there out...........not always possible. I don't do plumbing at all.......hate it, and have had a few nightmares in the past.

Loosen sinks/Cisterns and slide tile behind.......more of a pain.....but hey ho......no leaks.......usually :wink_smile:

Think you're got your answer there Trekky. Although I did go to quote on the other night which had two hundred yr old walls and the basin looked like it had been on for the past 50 or so. That ones stopping on the wall then!!

Im with CJ, I dont do plumbing either so i usually ask the customer if its possible to get a plumber to remove before i tile, if not then loosen and tile behind. Thankfully you dont get to many of these as most people ( with common sense ) only have the bath installed before tiling.

i never touch pipe work are any thing to do with plumbing, i have 2 plumbers
that i use.
too many leaks in past.

me neither if you have public liability alot of policies dont cover you for moving sanitary ware cos thats a whole diff trade, or they charge you extra as a add on to the policy

dont really understand what you are saying,are you saying get customer to take out by using a plumber?

If the cistern is against the wall and cannot be loosened off point it out to the customer.Tell them that if you cut round it the lid will never go back on properly.As far as I am concerned it is up to them to get a plumber in to remove and reposition it.If not there is a 90 per cent chance I won't do the job.Have cut round hundreds of toilet pans using cardboard templates.This I don't mind but allow for it in your quote.Same with basins.
