Bath and sink Silicon

Hi can anybody tell me whats the best Silicon is for sealing the bath and sink waste, and who sells it. Thanks

There shouldn't be any real need to seal the basin waste with Silicon.
No harm in doing so though. But if you do use a good one with an anti bacterial agent in it. Microban for example. Cheaper sealants will deteriorate and fail over time.

I use plumbersmate on sink and bath waste unless it has a soft foam washer in which case there is no need for anything

Thanks for the advice fella's, I've not had the bathroom suite delivered yet so not sure wot type of seals come with it. Where do you get the plumbersmate from masterofnone?

I've found the plumbsure basin and vanity sealer kit from B & Q will seal any basin far better than Silicon, and easier. Its only a couple of quid too.

Just watched a clip of the ultimate handyman using one of those plumb sure sealing kit they look the job. He also used plumbers gold, is that a good Silicon to use?

The best sealant for these type of joints is LSX - comes in little yellow "toothpaste" tubes from plumbers merchants.

Thanks for that advice fella's I've got it all wrote down. I know I'm going off the subject due I posted a thread earlier in wk and I didn't get much of a answer, I'm replacing old floor boards with 18mm ply which will also be over layed with no more ply backer board, I'm aware that the underside of the ply needs to be sealed with sbr and also the edges but would normal ply do or is wbp ply stronger and better to use?

Hi again aligage I was un sure if I could just use normal ply that's all with sealing and tile backer on it. Rather than spending more and it being covered and water tight. And was after knowing which would be the best screws for screwing boards to joists. Wish someone could just do the bathroom for me while I'm at work.

a general rule to ,follow when you open the tube if it has a strong smell it is of low quality;good quality Silicon is almost odourless

Samnjarv you'll want a hardwood ply not softwood. Yep its going to be covered and made waterproof. But the wood can still twist and move. There's better construction properties with hardwood.
