Dave, I agree insofar as all horizontal surfaces (including ledge and tray base surfaces) subjected to a flow of soaps, shampoos,.... in the shower environment gather s***e as the water flow reduces and dumps it’s load! Non-horizontal surfaces including pvc strips and Silicon can look crappy in the shower environment - if nobody bothers to clean them.
Kelly, my concern would be that quadrant tiles set in sealant will not accommodate much movement. Over static joints they may be quite suitable.
Davy, the wall/ledge joint is classed as a movement joint. A 2mm Silicon bead with a typical MAF of 25% will (in theory) expand 0.5mm (provided three side adhesion is avoided which I suspect is not). I would not consider this sufficient flexibility.
Like most products on the market - seal quality and innovation can differ from supplier to supplier. A point of interest in passing is that ‘pressure sensitive’ soft lip sealing strips have been the most prolific type of (pvc) bath seal in the UK market over the past 20 years. Sealux do promote such products as ‘fit for purpose’ because they are not.
