Bathroom in ply

Had a phone call today asking if I could quote on a bathroom.

The walls are all ply over stud work and i suggested that they are over boarded or replaced but customer said he was advised from another tiler that it would be cheaper to tank the whole bathroom than go with backer boards. He said that he was made aware after he done it that ply is not suitable because of moisture so he asked if it could be tanked.

Would this method be ok if it was fully tanked?

Depends whether you need the job Sean.
I would do it but I would be telling him all guarantees that I would normally give are null & void.
Hit it with Ardex tanking kit, as it probably the best for this situation.
I suspect that through time there will be cracks up the tiles in line of the ply join.

This is what I thought. I don't use anything other than ardex but this is 1 I haven't come across before.

That's what I think I was gonna do Mark. Seems a little dodgy to me.

Knowing life back and side of ply its not primed so it will absorb moisture and thats not good. You can also bed my favorite mesh on walls then tank.
