BATON or not!

I tend to do a lot of large format tiles so batons are important for me. I don't think I would have the confidence to leave them out of the equation at this stage. To set out I use a self levelling laser to mark the whole room then baton all walls. Even doing this method I still find that the tiles can be ever so slightly out when meeting up in the opposite corner. I'm not sure if it's a case of the level or the odd baton not being 100% straight. Then next time I tile I will try the method of tiling one wall at a time and then offering up the baton to the bottom of the tile.

If i have to hold up a tile i just use a nail underneath

I use batons , the thought of arriving the next day and finding them all on the floor gives me sleepless nights.

i don`t use battons any more, if you take your time working out the cuts around the room 1st ,shouldn`t need them, i always spend time on every job weighing it all up before starting..i have a saying... PEE POOR PREPARATION LEADS TO A PEE POOR PERFORMANCE,not everyone works the same way,find a way your happy with.

I use a laser level and baton to it round the entire room, and am so damn fussy I wouldn't dream of starting a room without them. Regardless of format, adhesive etc..can I trust a tile not to drop half a mm, No way! That would be me ripping it off and starting a fresh, and there is nothing I hate more than doing a job twice!

I've just a done a bathroom with Porcelanosa 1000 x 300mm tiles. I used Ardex X77w adhesive; I pinged the laser around the room at border height, and "hung" the tiles. There was no slippage at all. Use a good adhesive and you can make most tiles stay where you want them :lol:

That is impressive how high did you go with the rest

The border was pretty much mid point around the room. I then tiled down to the floor which was only another 2 tiles and then the cut :lol:. I then went up to the ceiling.

I use them! You have other issues going on with your 1st row to worry about tiles slipping half a mil. On my 1st row of tiles I like to concentrate on the tiles being plumb by using a 1800 level accross the face of the tile with the edge of the level projected as far out as possible so I can assess where the true plane of the tiles will project, then make subtle adjustments with my rubber mallet, now, stuff doing all that and worrying if one of my wedges has slipped on the floor and my tile has slightly dropped!... I love to know my 1st row of tiles is perfect as it makes the test of the job a pleasure to do!

Over the years i have tried all methods, baton stands, batons, no batons all with equal levels of success! I just feel once batons are in, music on nice and relaxed nothing to worry about other than doing a good job!
Batons off then tile floor cuts in perfect, just my comfortable method, but each to there own!

I rarely use batons to hold up tiles unless there of the larger variety especially with tubbed adhesive and especially whitestar which has high non slip properties ...but then i suppose its personal preference

How large are the tiles with tubbed gear....

also the tiles stated are 300x200 so whitestar should hold them with no problems anything over this i would have recommended going bagged .... i see what your getting at though i worded that wrong
