ive got the bare cheek to go into b and q...i pick up a level and walk to the timber section...split open the kiln dried batons packs of 8...and check them for straightness...i take the straight ones and leave the bent ones and leave the level...

Hi when i use ali battens which i get from local metal suppliers i hold them up with Rubi batten stands which you can get from Trade tiler so easy to use.

I've tried the Rubi tile batten stands, but they sit in the garage now, bit of a pain.
We always used to use battons, but now with laser levels being so helpful i just cut the tiles on the bottom course and tile upwards, then check each course with the laser as i go. Loads less hassle, and there is no chance of nailing anything i shouldn't anymore.

I find travis Perkins 2x1 planed all round to be the best quality for batons, I've considered trying to use some aluminium ones just a pain having to carry lots of different lengths all banging around in or on the van. You can cut timber to perfect length probably use it for a couple of jobs then I burn it on the log burner in the garden.

Pin down to your bottom tile to the floor, cut them to the line/floor, check with the level, make adjustments with Rubi wedges, sorted.
