Hope this works, the old way of using a pin hammer to cut a circle out of a tile, slightly different to the way I do it but same principle. It's all we had back in the day, thanks tic tic. These skills should be kept alive imo.

We used to spend ages on our courses making sure the lads could use hand tools only to cut things with. Holes and key cuts for sockets etc.

Thing is these days so many stones get fitted instead of ceramics and whatnot that you'd probably never finish a job off unless you had power tools and a range of rail cutters.

I still think people should be able to do it though it gives them a bit of an understanding on how tough a tile can be if fixed right but how weak they can be if not. As it only takes a high heel to walk on a floor with an air pocket under it for a while before it acts like a hole cutter and pin hammer.

Been along time since i did that but back then it was just cheap ceramics , i wouldn't try that on a G5 porc now..

The pin hammer i had , had a sort of point end and made the hole making easier.. with less breakages.. i used to have a loch boy as well...

We always used to use one of these (can't find them on trade tiler anymore not sure if I'm just blind)

Yep thats the fella Dan, I have a loch boy gathering dust in the garage, just couldn't use one now.

thats the way i used to do porcs grind out from back use pin hammer on face thats all we had to use then but could be very good cuts

When i first started tiling there was no tile cutters everything was done with hand tools, cutting quarrys was done with a pin hammer and a cutting chisel in them days there was not even any floor adhesive all floors were laid with sand and cement,I still use a loch boy just as quick as drilling, showing my age.

13 years ago when my son did a college course for tiling, on day 2 they handed him a 6inch white tile and pin hammer and asked him to cut a hole in the tile. I asked him how many times did the instructor do it and he said 'none'.
As my 365 drills had been used in the 20mm size for a recent porcelain bathroom, the LED lights were cut by hand with a grinder from the back and hammer from the front.

had a shot of that at college aswell good to learn the old skills, technology has took over no neysyed for 4 yr apprenticeship nowadays that refers to all trades imo
