Hi all,
Gotta do a 5m2 brick effect kitchen splashback and wondered if you could give us some answers please. Its the first time were attempting this.
How high up the wall above the worktop would we lay our baton? I know it sounds daft, but what would it look like when we cut it along the length? And the customer has asked for a trim, but would this look ok with a bevelled edge?
Thanks a lot
Vinnie

IMO it is very important to try and set out so you have your cut tiles into the trim on the 1/4 and 3/4. This gives you more full thickness of the tile into the trim. If it works out at 1/2 tile, full tile into the trim I think it looks hideous, personally.

kitchen installation is the only one that you always start with a full tile off the worktop. so i always use cardboard folded wedges because it crushes down to get a level. Ive never used a batten for tiling at all.

we did think this, but was worried in case the work top is not level.
Vinnie
You need to check for level before you start. It shouldn't be that far out. If it is a mil or 2 you can use Rubi wedges if necessary to help keep things straight. if it is more than that you are in trouble, using those tiles.

Always check how level the worktop is some are hidiously out of level if its reasonably level then work from the middle so that you may trim a couple of mm off some tiles and be left with a few mm gap on the full tiles at the other end...if that makes any sense?

ok,thanks lads, they are a 200 x 100 tile, what size spacers would you suggest? I know its personal taste, but whats the norm?
Cheers again.
Vinnie.
