So I went to view a job to price today. 27sqm of plank type tiles.
Its in a kitchen. The customer has stressed and stressed during
the visit he wants the tiling to meet the threshold pretty much bang on.

Would you start from the door way and move away from it and use rapid
set so to have a place of exit ' dont fancy climbing out windows lol or work towards the door?

Also when self levelling do you fellas mix it a bit more watery as for better flowing or as per the descructions lol?

Be careful using to much water as it'll break the slc down and it'll just crumble when it dries.

Yeah sound Russell cheers mate. Just some videos ive watched flow really nice was just
Wondering if yous generally dilute it slightly more because the last stuff i poured was quite thick?

I tend to add a little more water than what's recomended but not to much as I've had it fail before. Had someone out and I'd used to much water

What do you mean up to the thresh hold?. I always work my cuts out and then start at one end of the room and work back.

Hes got thresholds already down and insisted he didnt want the floor levels to come above. Is it worth the hassel as the thresholds are glued solid lol

Rip the thresholds up & tell him that it finishes where it finishes, end of story.
Don't try & let him tell you your job.
Measure out & start away from the door & finish at the door.
Always mix slc per instructions on the bag, what slc are you using?

Cempolatex i think it was called last week when i poured it. What would you reco? As for notch size about 8 or 10 mm?

Don't really like the stuff, is it over a concrete (screed) base?
I use Mapei Eco, or I did until I got hold of some TileMaster slc.

Yes it is onto concrete. Theres a place a few miles away from me who stocks tilemaster
gear ill enquire to see if theyve got the tilemaster slc.
Does this flow well?

Yeah, really good.
As I said Mapei Eco (Ultraplan) if you can't get TileMaster gear.
Hardly have to touch it, I use a spike roller to get the air out of it & job done.

Is it a case of pouring and leaving no pushing it around? When i poured the other day
I was trying to trowel the bugger lol head was demented haha

I normally only use the spike roller to flow the pours into each other & get rid of air pockets.
If you work slc too much with a float it doesn't leave it level.
The more you pour the more your learn.

Mix as instructed and any problems with the material you have a good come back. Is it just me that has customers that don't want to pay for self levelling? The amount of "crap" I have to get over sometimes!

Oh and sorry, when you get to the threshold you said it's fixed, just remember to lay the tiles to go under it before the last row before the threshold or you'll be picking them up to get them in

I use skid rake, spiked roller and a trowel. Doing bigger floor on your own its a struggle. Its better to have someone mixing as you can spend time working on latex and then its a joy to tile on top of it

remove threshold, baton doorway if needed, prime floor, mix as per instructions, pour and trowel, spike roller it
someone too mix helps if your not quick
practice you should be able too screed within a 2mm tolerance with no trowel marks, only taken 30 years so far 🙂

As has been said, a well latex'd floor is not only a joy to work with, it saves u time and potentially a lot of adhesive. Do u have much depth?
If u have over 6mm to go down u can cut some 6mm batons up and use them as runners to pull a straight edge along. A method described on here by Jonnyc. It's worth the effort esp if you're not confident yet. Then u can remove them the Nxt day and back fill the space they leave. Just make sure they are well supported or they will sag when u pull thro your straight edge.
Thats what I had to do here because from the point I chose to take my level from the floor varied by +18 to -5mm 37 bags in 43m2! I used the tilemaster on this occasion but my other favourite is Weber Floorflex. Good luck.
