Bit of advice please guys!

Hi all, yet another question from me .

Got a bathroom floor to do, floor is floorboard i know your ment to use a 15mm ply over bored but the problem is the step? they have young children and dont want any accidents as you can imagen, i wasnt sure if screwing the floors boards into the joists then over boarding with a 9mm wbp ply be anygood? i know i could do a little ramp almost but im no joiner. wanted to ask first before doing anything. thanks alot. I the floor is solid, over board it with a cement board before tiling. The cement boards are only 6mm thick.

im worried there could be a bit of movement just because of the squeak

You could really do with sorting that out whether you ply or cement board. Why don't you replace the floor boards with 18mm ply then overboard that with the cement board? Is that an option?

not really as im having to tile around appliances if i start taking them out pipes will need to be sorted out etc will be struggling for time but the job needs to be done correct but ide rather not go down that road if possible, theres always somthing

No 9mm ply is not nearly thick enough, you will be asking for problems. You need to make the floor as solid as possible, if you cant do this by screwing the floor boards down then you will have to remove them and replace with ply. Ply really is a rubbish substrate to tile onto even at 18mm (IMO), you are much better off getting the floor solid and then over boarding with a cement board like no more ply or hardie.

so if boards can be secured solid by screwing down would you recommened a backer boared over a ply?

You could really do with sorting your floor out properly before overboarding it though, extra screws, or noggins. You'll kick yourself if you board it, then tile it, then it fails, then you have to do it all again. Not trying to scare monger, I've just seen the effects of poorly prepped floors that need ripping up and starting over.

yeah your right just dont have a great deal experiance in joinery can do a bit but i spose will have to learn on the job so to speak.
