Black grout stories

Hey guys - Is it really that scarey using black grout?

I've some heavy 30 x 30 cm porcelain tiles to fit in a kitchen.

I've read posts that say most black grout isn't dark enough. I have some black mortar powdered stain - anone tried anything similar?

Try Mapei, black stays black and not half as bad as grout made with dyes.
You could always use a pre-sealer too.

I prefer the Mapei black and always use gloves. Not scary to use, but takes much longer to clean down.

did have a customer who moaned a bit about it not being black enough, but I tell all customers it is never, black, black if you get me

1. wear gloves, work clean!
2. make sure the bag of grout is well shaken to ensure an equally distributed mix.
3. measure water and grout equally and accurately each mix.
4. make sure your sponges are well rung out in order to stop excess water getting into the grout when cleaning off, causing shading when drying.

as mentioned above, mapei's black is very good! remember to mechanically mix mapei grouts!!

Welcome along, black grout, dirty stuff, but like above work clean, small sections at a time and keep changing the water!!!

Isn't black grout the same as any other? .....just more visible.

the black die tends to stain everthing in sight.......get it on your clothes, hands, sponges, grout floats......very hard to remove.

Now I think of it one of my floats has black stains from months ago. Anything else cleans off no probs.

i've just finished a job with over 250m2 of black grout. no probs at all. use 1 bag at a time. use a washboy, lots of clean water. take your time with your final swipe on the washboy and it should be fine. gloves a must!
