Blocked/Private/Withheld numbers

Do any of you answer them? I never do and they never seem to leave an answer phone message. It's probably telemarketers most of the time but, some of them could be job enquiries. If you want a tradesman to come to your home, why would you withhold your number?

Nope but also rarely ring back any number that doesnt leave a message.

I always answer the home phone as I've put the number on on some new business cards but 90% of calls to our landline are automated messages from PPI companies. I hate these calls with a passion as you don't even get the opportunity to abuse someone for disturbing you!!

Yeah I always answer the landline, don't have a number display on it though so kinda have to! Like you say, most of the time it's automated or PPI. The person who had our landline number before us must have some mega debt because we always get calls asking for her, 4 years on and I'm still having to tell people this number doesn't belong to her.

99% of the time its sales, but once last year I had a customer call on a withheld number - I got the job for that one, so now I always answer them.

She was calling from work. If people work in a bank they're withheld, lots of offices are too...

"Caller Display" is a must these days. Get about 5-6 "international number" calls a day......which are silent, so I don't even bother answering. Withheld numbers get answered, but only after I have muted the TV, and if it is an obvious tele call, I'm only a babysitter or robber.

I can't wait for the next PPI claim back company to ring me. I'm going to ask them if I can still claim back all of the PPI I paid out on my loans, mortgage and store cards despite me knowing full well what I was signing up for... see what they say?

LOL i was just reading you post when a ppi woman rung so i basically read you post to her off screen she stuttered a bit and then said yes we can, but we will have to have a look at your paperwork, i said ok thanks and put the phone down lol........

Makes a mockery of the whole thing then doesn't it Dave :lol: the PPI claimback money is for those who were mis-sold not for people who understood what were being sold to them. Too many chancers out to make a quick buck by getting you to lie about it. What a wonderful world we live in.

You can if you were self employed and can prove that they would have been of no use to you. But you can do your own.
My dad is self employed, as is my sister and they've both had decent payouts. I used the same company, they recovered alot of money for me, but the company paid them direct, the ppi company went bankcrupt and i ended up with naff all!!!!! Really happy about that.
