take the ragni back mate, they are crap mate!!

get a marshalltown as mark devon says. preworn stainless steel. if you are only dot and dabbing and skimming ceilings in bathrooms and floating out bathrooms, then an 11 inch will be better for you till you get the hang of it.

the basic starter
tools you'll need are:
13x13 handboard (hawk)
11 or 13 in marshall town trowel
gauging trowel
6ft alliminium feather edge
6 inch brush, 4 inch brush , 1in ch brush
65 litre bucket or gorrilla bucket
6ft level
3ft level
3 builders buckets
set of tin snips (for cutting angle beads)
small tool
couple of cheap margin trowels
mixing drill (refina are the best)
roller and tray for pva or bondit etc
stanley knife & tape

again, if you go to goldtrowels site, they have a comprehensive plasterers tool section, they have everything you'll need and they deliver next day ;0)

Just booked onto a plastering course on monday. Thought id take advantage of the quiet period im having to expand my knowledge of different trades.
Nice thing is y dad has nicely said he will pay for it as he wants e to plaster his front room when i'm finished.

A not gonna take plastering as a full tie occupation as i know its takes years of practice and a lot of hard work. I'm just gonna use it to aid me to understand more about how to apply plasterboards use dot and dab and other techniques prior to tiling.

I also need to do a few rooms in my house so am sure a gonna get something from this.
----
Just to those who tile on here i heard they give you a rubbish toolkit to use on the course. What tools shall i buy to get me started. shall i just buy a marshaltown trowel

I am the same mate on a course at diamond training in 8 weeks time another basic skill under the wing

Knowledge is the way forward

2" paintbrush to neaten internal corners (forget corner trowels)
4" paintbrush to smooth where the trowel cant get
6" wide, long bristle paintbrush to splash water onto skim when smoothing out
bucket trowel
aluminium hawk
3 or 4 gorilla buckets for mixing
bucket for rubbish and dried plaster
bucket for clean water only
5 gallon bucket for water to clean tools
cleaning brush
electric drill used as mixer
mixing paddle
6' spirit level
feather edge 6' + a 6' feather edge cut into a 4' and a 2'
roller and painters rectangular bucket for pva/water mix
something sturdy to stand on - crate, hop up and step ladder
several dust sheets and polythane sheets

Hey tysfoot, I did my tiling course where your doing the plastering course "it's only a small industrial unit, tiling bays as you walk in, plastering bays behind them", but I hope the plastering teachers know more about plastering than the tiling teachers did, as the amount of things I was taught about tiling were so wrong it was beyond understanding really, but the tutors are friendly, if not knowledgeable.

Good luck

Cheers guys and cheers burden for that list. so far ive heard bad reviews about this course so at least i know what to expect so anything better is a bonus. Just out of interest did you do your course on two weekends or in the weekday.
A only saying that because i did my tiling course at weekend and they were lazy and hungover. Who really wantes to work on a sunday so im hoping there gonna be fresh and lively for tomos. Fingers crossed. Ill take something good from it i know as i can do all the practice in my own houes after the course

Just bought myself a 12 inch marshaltown trowel (£30, wow thats expensive but i know it will last) and a margin trowel. i know they will supply the rest but i wanted a good trowel as i know you need one to see the differece in quality
