but why D&D and not backbuttering the rear of the tiles

you're not getting full adhesive contact with the tile biscuit and addy bed, so consequently you get hollow spots and your tile is hanging on spots of addy that aren't transferring an even weight distribution to the substrate.

As long as you get the contact like you say,, then the method is fine.. just you used the D&D word when you are actually back buttering them..

Sorry Clarkep, I was going to say the job was looking good. Until the dot & dab bit, solid bed trowel, plus back skim is the way to go. Maybe read through some old threads, check BS. recommendations, let your mate read this post. Sorry dot and dab is not a acceptable method:ban:

Sorry Clarkep, I missed a few posts there. I did'nt realise you meant back skim rather than dot and dab. Me being paranoid neat looking tiling mate, well done.
