It's not a stupid question because the pic i've linked to is too small to show clearly but each 400x100 tile is made up of about 9 seperate blocks which are all a different thickness and all very rough. They aren't meant to be grouted and i reckon nigh on impossible to clean down.

But what you find is you can scratch that itch in the middle of your back just by leaning against them!
We did a feature strip x 2 in a walk in shower/wet room earlier this year.
I believe our client bought this slate stack from Porcelanosa at some ridiculous price but it was amazing to look at and must have taken some time to make up.
When you look at the back of the 'tile' strip the pieces are so close together there is no possibility of grouting between the strips.
So you have to make sure that the wall is 'tanked' and the back of the tile is filled with waterpoof adhesive - this way any ingress will not affect the substrate.
On completion and when fully dry - seal the slate with as many coats as will be accepted.

Yep Porcelanosa supplied these as well, so just seal the face and exposed edges no need to worry about the back?
When you say waterproof adhesive would standard 1 part flexi cement based be ok??

I have a photo somewhere of the one we did - it was 2 feature strip about 300/400mm wide - I'll post it later!
I would use a cement based fast set fexible and if you can seal the edges before fixing do - but not the back!
One thing we found as they are 400mm long and interlocking - stagger the joints between the rows of 100mm widths - as that joint will stand out as being a straight line otherwise.

my missus wanted those (altho I can't see the pic) as a feature wall in our bathroom, I shot her my "don't even think about it " look:20:

So would i at about £100 p/m, they look gash as an idividual tile but on a full wall or a decent strip they do look bobby dazzler, does anyone know if you can get internal/external corners for these?
