That was my first thought, kids, they see a bit of frozen water and just 'have' to go on it.

My wife and I went for a walk along the local river last winter and found a couple of lads on the frozen river breaking a hole in the ice about 20 ft from the bank. I said to them it wasn't a clever idea and was just given a 'get lost' look. The only good thing was I wouldn't have felt compelled to save them if they'd gone in because they would have just been swept down under the ice. Yes, Doug, put a rocket up him.

when i think back to a few years ago, weather like we've had would not put off my uncle and myself fishing, just get the glycerine on the eyes and away we would go, there were also a good few times when we would break the ice on the canal and fish the hole...not a chance these days...
