Re: builder has ruined travertine tiles installation & wants to tile over the ruined

It's a very valid point. He has installed the travertine in two areas and it looks good. In this bathroom, he was working in bad light and decided to continue. The overall work is nearly complete. He has been paid for most of it, but there is £5k outstanding. As much as it pains me to get him to redo the work, I don't think I have a choice.

Thank you Kilty

Have to agree with everyone else..tiles will have to come of the walls as it will not take the weight of additional tiles..if the tiles are removed carefully, it should be possible to soak the tiles and then scrape off the plasterboard and adhesive..you may lose some of the tiles but should be able to save most of them..good luck..

A guide for your tile weights Tiles and Adhesive Weight Per Square Metre - THE TILE SOURCE
Thanks for that site for the weights, would be good to print off so as you can show your customers if you need too, as on occasion when you tell the customer that the tiles they have got are to heavy for where they want them due to the background they want them on, they look at you as if you is stupid and say the man in the tile shop said they would be ok..

One of the problems with general builders doing specialised work... they simply don't know the important aspects of every trade.

Let us know how it goes mate.

Aint that just the truth....will some accept specialist advice though.....:mad2:
