Watched that repeat of grand designs the other night with the leaky german flat roof as far ime concerned it was never going to work and ime not sure thats the way they do it there seems like it was a new idea but anyway i worked in germany for sometime and generaly they work to a good standard but youiget bodgers everywhere.

I hope my original post didn't come across as me slating German builders? In fact I admire a lot of their techniques but my point is that most of the work is done off site so it seems to Joe public that they are more efficient, in many ways they are but we just don't have that sort of infrastructure in the UK. Because of that, the few companies in the UK that can work in this way are very expensive because of the limited amount of work they get means they can't be competitive

watched grand designs last night...the one where the couple reclaimed an old castle...cost them a fortune but was absolutely magnificent when complete.anyone see it?

I missed that one Brian, but what does sping to mind was a builders from hell episode where this farmer stacked hay bales 40ft high then built a mock tudor castle inside! then lived in it for 4 years hidden away before he unveiled it and tried to claim retrospective planning permission! I think he should be allowed to keep it just for his pure cheek
