buying decent tools

i have Fried two grinders this week, sparks, smoke, melted plastic, the stench of burned PCB. can any one recommend a brand that are known for durability. also my drills keep burning out their variable speed GRRRRR:mad2:

I use a ryobi, its lasted a year and no problems. £80
But if you want to be really fancy you could spend £350 on a festool althogh no hammer action. But they are the best tools money can buy.

cheers guys, i am going to check out some Makita and Hitachi. i have never heard of milwaukee as a power tool brand?

I've had a Black & Decker grinder for about 15 years.....used and abused it but still going strong. Also a Makita hammer drill for about 20 years, bought secondhand, and thats still going strong.

Black&decker........they make dewalt as well.......

I use a FLEX hand grinder to cut everything unless its got to go on the bed. They are expensive but worth the money. I also use a FEIN polisher on stone work for the odd snag. Both these machines are the dogs, If I was to buy a drill it would be a Hilti they outlast humans no probs when used for the job they were intended.

Elu were Swiss made now B&D have their hands on them :huh2:

dewalt is american
elu was the european version of dewalt
black and decker own dewalt BUT they are not the same drill.
in the 90's black and decker changed the branding so dewalt became the world wide brand name for the pro market (eliminating elu) and black and decker are their diy brand

so if you owned a dewalt / elu in the 80's. 90's then they were the same inside but different on the outside.
