Have you heard of many liquid screeds going down in NI area? It seems that they are always the customer's spec rather than the builder's. Not tiled one yet but know of one another squad tiled without doing their homework which is now being taken to court. 150m lifted in 3 months.

There are quite a few suppliers in NI so I assume the market is reasonably buoyant.

First one I've done Peter , but I was in the company of alot of tilers at a trade show a few weeks back , and the ardex technical guy was talking about these floors, the look on some of their faces was of horror , think they might have tiled over them and not known !

The Legend; Phil Hobson RIP

I am in the middle of ripping one up, over the last few months I have been on and off this job.

150m2 600mmx600mm polished porcelain, the tiles come up clean from the calcium sulphate screed, the screed was not abraded and was treated as a sand and cement conventional floor.

Good for me, not so good for the client or our industry.:mad2:

Well I guess after about 10 floors the hire costs could have gone towards a purchase plus you need to arrange to collect the machine and thats time off work etc. I prefer to buy.
I do have an old floor polisher which I hope could have been adapted and alsoI was looking at the Hiretech HT8 and HT7 but wasnt sure if they were man enough for the job.
i will send you some pictures of what we have set up on our machine Neale does the job brilliantly

My customer is just of the phone to me , saying that the screening company that laid their floor said that the floor doesn't need sanding or grinding as theirs no lataience residue ! They informed them that it was a hemihydrate screed , and that it only would require to coats of acrylic primer! Does this seem correct?

As far as I'm aware you need to remove laitance from them all, even the low laitance screeds.
Wait till Alan's (Ajax) back on, he's your man.

No. In fact all screeds and concretes should be sanded prior to the application of bonded floor coverings. This included sand cement screeds, power float concretes, anhydrite and he I hydrate screeds. It is part of the guidance of the manufacturers and the floor trade associations. It is part of the guidance from most adhesive and primer companies.
