cement/faced tile backer board

It's not a question of can't answer it's an opinion, my opinion based on having worked with the 3 popular british boards/european ones and their supplying companies. If you want to research the subject then your best option I would of thought would be to acrue details of the 6 or so cored boards available in the uk that way you will have quoted standards to compare........

such as wedi/board, marmox, and so on, can anybody prob( AJAX ) tell me the purpose of the mesh and polimer/cement coating on boath sides of the board please

It is to add strength to the boards...and create an excellent surface to bond to...without this coating and mesh strenghtening then you would not be able to hang so much weight from them etc...

Ajax works with screeds and not backer boards gooner.....so chill out when replying to sponsors please..

ill telephone the tec dep,of said boards tomoz,and see what they say the coating and mesh is for ,thats all i can think of, we use a board in the pool ind thats much cheaper than the above and i can't see why it can't cross-over in to ceramic tiling !! and ill sell it!!!:lol::lol::lol:

I also think the cement and mesh helps stop the tiles delaminating from the board and provides a good key to tile to. Just my theory.

The cement face is designed to take up the moisture form the adhesive and promote a keen bond between the board, tile and the adhesive, the fibre glass mesh enables better tensile and compressive strength giving you 30 tonnes of compessive strength per m2 once the product has been tiled upon.
