I'm soon to be laying tiles on a cement screed floor. I've done these before without problems.

However there are some CH pipes that are buried in the floor. These are quite close to the surface. When the old lino was down you could feel the heat via the floor!

I'm concerned about adhesive failure as a result of the heat. Should I be and if so, what precautions should be taken.

The floor is too small for a decoupling membrane under normal circumstances. The area is around 6 ft by 6ft.

The tiles haven't been chosen yet, but I suspect the client will go for 300x300 or larger for the floor.

Is it possible to switch off the central heating so that when you spread the adhesive it cools down in a uniform way and sets with maximum strength?

If you get hot spots it might accelerate and affect the drying out time. I dont know about the setting times of adhesives so maybe hotspots wont be a problem. But I do know that the hotter things are the quicker they go off....

Thanks for the replies so far.

When I mentioned that the size was too small for a decoupling membrane I meant to convey that, from the info that Dave posted about decoupling membranes and expansion joints etc, the size in itself wouldn't justify one. (see I do read what you guys post )

The floor is a typical cement screed. TBH there was very little, if any cracking in the screed where the pipes were, which may answer my question to a certain extent.
