computers slow helppp

lo all,can anyone advise me on how to clear my computer,,for 2 weeks now its been really slow,it sounds like a commodore 64 loading up dynamite dan on the tape deck at the mo or should i be getting a computer man in to have a look at it?

Kilty, are we the same age? I remember those!

You can down load a program called Ccleaner.. use this at least once a week and it will remove all the crap left behind from browsing etc.. keeps th e memory in tip top state..

Hey there Dave,

I downloaded that program, and it said it was free. Then it ran for a minute or so and generated a list of "problems" and is now telling me to subscribe (pay them) to fix the problems they found.

Did I do something wrong?

The software is defo free, your not trying to use the enterprise edition are you?

i use system mechanic, its a free 30 day no limit download, cleans all the crap out, defrags hd and registry etc and also memory

The best thing I did with my old laptop was to save all my files externally and format the drive. It took a while to reload all the software but it was like a new machine.

9 / 10 a quick cause of drastic system slow down is malware and or a virus, if its a gradual slow down its usually instaled programs adding themselves to the start up menu.

You need to run msconfig, ... in win7 the bottom left icon and type in msconfig, from the box that pops up select start up, untick anything you dont want / need at start up, be carefull though anything you do can be undone. This will increase speed as it will save on ram.

What are your system specs and OS ?

I cant remember for xp or earlier but a google search will tell you
