Do you know I didnt know, or had forgotton, the term 'mil' as used in imperial measures.
Copied this definition for our info from the Uni of Nth Carolina website:
a unit of distance equal to 0.001 inch: a "milli-inch," in other words. Mils are used, primarily in the U.S., to express small distances and tolerances in engineering work. One mil is exactly 25.4 microns, just as one inch is exactly 25.4 millimeters. This unit is also called the thou. With the increasing use of metric units in the U.S., many machinists now avoid the use of "mil" because that term is also a handy slang for the millimeter.

I would say to Rob that anyone under 40 would have been taught the metric system, however that doesnt mean we use it exclusively. For small dimensions millimetres certanily beat thousands of an inch though!

your key words are anyone under 40 would have been taught metric/// in the real world there are people over 40 me included maybe the younger ones should learn from the old school :8:just pointing out the obvious
and another note different countries tend to use certain types of measurements America still use imperial over metric there choice

well i was a machinist for a number of years we still used inches as in thous and had to convert metric as most of the machines are American or to old to be metric but some small tools like drills we had both

we do use shower curbs here Rob but its mainly on industrial or commercial work ,I worked at an army base a couple of years ago where we had to build a shower curb then waterproof the area ,sand and cement screed was then done to create falls into tiled gulley channels that took the water to a floor gulley also alot of gyms have a very similar specification to this ,the use of sheet tanking membrane is becoming more popular as the tilers here are becoming more familiar with it ,our problem here is our standards are only updated very occasionally it would be better if we had a similar publication to the tcna handbook which could be published on an annual or biannual basis also training seminars are virtually non existant when new products are released tile setters are often the last to know and only discover them when they are sitting on the tile shop shelves

Do the mechanics and engineers in England still use mils for machinery specs? Or has that gone to a metric based system too? Maybe instead of mils you use microns for the stuff that is thinner/smaller than millimeters.
No Rob we have to be spot on Lol
Lucius
By the way thats how we do it in Spain with curb

Hi Andy, are you using the pan liner method under the mud also? If so, which materials are used for pan liners?

Hi Rob, get the liners from local plumbers merchants not sure what material it is exactly but its some kind of butyl with the waste welded to it.
