I don't know if it is me, but I keep getting bumped on current quotes.

Example, a 7m2 kitchen floor onto 12mm ply, 4m2 in bathroom floor, again 12mm ply, and 22m2 on walls. Both floor tiles are 300 x 300 porcelian and the bathroom walls are 600 x300 ceramics. The plasterer has made a poor job, particually on the window wall where nothing is dead flat for that size tiles, I pointed this out to the client.

I went in at £25 m2 for all, £25 a bag of addy and flat rate on the grout. I didn't even go in at day rate for the small floors, which both have odd angles into the door ways.

So, he calls and some one else got the job at £15m2...............

Feel like giving up.

I'm going through a phase at the moment...........

"Stuff this for a lark, I'm fed up with the numpties" Phase

I'm booked up for the next 5 weeks.....nothing special mind. Could squeeze in a small job here and there if jobs go to plan.

But..........

I am sick to death of being stitched up some way or another by problems/customers & silly ar55es.

1. Done my next door neighbours kitchen/dining room floors 3 weeks ago. Good mates rates (Still to be paid :incazzato:)

2. Doing another neighbours bathroom, had to remove tiles, which did come of ok, small amount of prep, but mostly ok.........until the plumber turned up and removed the bath (shower going in instead) NO plaster/render behind.....straight back to blockwork :mad2::mad2: So that had to be sorted, which has put me back by 2 days owing to the plumber not being able to fix shower base in.

3. Job for a local guy in a empty house (2 be let) full bathroom and kitchen walls.......held up waiting for plumber again.......and kitchen walls in an appalling state:mad2:

I have not had any money for almost 4 weeks now..............and to be honest I am getting really pee-ed of with it lately.

Also had 4 phones calls for small kitchen splashbacks 2 1/2 -3 meter jobs, and I'm pi55ed off with people sucking through their teeth when I tell them that I have to charge a daily rate and usually pop back next dat to grout.

All in all I am pi55ed right off at the moment, and thoughts have crossed my mind about getting back to a 9-5 job with someone else........no more working weekends, no going out to do quotes in evening......no more punters saying "can you take the rubbish down the dump"
"No, I chuffing can't without having to pay for it" you silly old fart:mad2:

Well.........thats my moan over for today.........had enuff :incazzato::incazzato:

I'll be better tomorrow :incazzato: but maybe not,? as I have to go and catch up on the bathroom job with the missing wall :mad2::mad2:

stick in there Colin,it will pass by and you will be better for it.Try and take any positives from it and also any mistakes you could have prevented etc or take it as a learning curve..ie dont wait for your money from neighbours..i would make a little joke or something just to remind them or just ask for it as you have had to pay for materials and tiles..it is your money bud.

Also, imo,in the current climate peoples mortgages are now lower (interest rate)and i think a lot of them are just trying it on with the price thing ,as i think most people in stable jobs are slightly better off.(i might get shiricked for this comment but its my opinion.)
Just tell them top put the rubbish in the wheelie bin.

I must admit to being a bit low a few weeks ago but i have picked up and have work for a few weeks ,so stick in there m8.

Agree with Bri here. People on base rate mortgages will being paying alot less as my m8 has one and he's saving £300 a month.
I think people under-estimate the prep work involved in tiling though, and therefore expect it to be cheap. Just finished a job and was speaking to the guy that was laying the laminate flooring. He's getting paid double what i was getting :mad2: . He was doing more m2 than me but all his prep work was, skirting off(same as me) and chuck membrane down. I was their 7 long days and he be their 5 very short days. Think i'll lay laminate from now on:lol:.

Put it this way Bri, he's getting £1500 for 3 days work:drool5:. If he kept off the phone and was their for more than 2hrs at a time:smilewinkgrin:. He'll do it in 5 days, but i think he's just spinning it out.

£1500 for three days work, I'm lucky to get that in a month the way its going in South London.
