I find the ones I turn up at and think 'this is a nice one' is normally fatal! I had given a ball park £150 plus mat's a pop for average kitchen to a kitchen firm. This was reviewed very quickly!
I had one last week that was 2m2, nice and easy. Apart from where the cuts worked out down the end of unit run, meant cuts both sides of a full tile, so took me 80% of a day to do whole thing. Plus the tiles wouldn't cut on either of dry cutters so all wet cuts; one socket, but that was old, and the nut to screw into broke off. This one was £185.
The week before was a 4-5m2, fairly straight forward, plug problems, and couple of hour hold up waiting for plumber to finish. Day and 3/4 ish in total - £290.
My average is probably nearer to £300 including materials nowadays. Customers (and firms) seem happy to pay for a top quality job with no come backs.

Misunderstanding then, I thought you were saying people who only priced up a job on day rates was a bit thick or slow

I would guess there are a lot of tilers who do charge by the day and are slow, wether because their new or just ... slow.. and yeah they will be charging some customers more than what others would charge, but I can't see them being able to do this with every customer they have, and will in the end lose customers because they are charging more for for doing a job that others will do in less time.
Feks it was a discussion my tilers were having some of them were saying they new a tiler that wouldn't do any thing on a price who took as much time as he could sometimes working only 3 hours a day and charged the customer a full day ect, i don't think they would last long might get away with one or two but people would catch on to it in my opinion
i always hated day work have to do it sometimes because i have always been able to earn more on a price but when i have to do it i work just the same:pete
