Evening,
just wondering what you guys use for cutting backer boards? I'm using Hardie-backer 500 for boarding out a shower, first time i've used cement board. They didn't stock the carbide cutting tool at CTD so at the moment just got wood blades for the jigsaw (looks like it would eat through them like no tomorrow!) and normal stone blade for the grinder.
How good are the carbide cutting tools? is it worth searching one out or should I cover the place in sh*t loads of dust with the grinder(don't think the missus will be too impressed)?

Chris

Use a stanley if you cant get hardie blade, Don't use the grinder unless your wearing a mask

You will probably find you use a blade a sheet!

Hi, you could use carbide jigsaw blades.

Which CTD is it that wasnt stocking the score & snap knives?

I know darlington don't stock them....maybe worth a call to pay them a visit...

Topps have the Hardibacker carbide tool cutter @ £6.99, but it might be worth giving them a call just in case it's out of stock. I find that you have to score the board about 4 times, but they do the trick. Cheers Sean

Cheers for the response's guys:thumbsup:

i thought i'd give the cheaper options a go first before shelling out on the diamond saw blade for the grinder!! Bought some new blades for the stanley and a couple of carbide tipped jigsaw blades (£1.99 a throw from screwfix)...scored a sheet a few times with the blade but it didn't want to snap so resorted to the jigsaw- cut through first time n not as much dust as I expected-result.

It was the local CTD in Leeds that didn't stock the Hardiebacker cutting tool, even still, sound lad behind the counter though!

Cheers

Chris

Once you score them Chrissyboy just stand board up and hit it with your knee. Should break no bother.

use a stanley knife for the str8 cuts score and snap and for the cut outs a tungsten tipped jigsaw blade. ordinary wood blade fine for one or two cuts after that its history.

They all have access to them and should be a stock item, if not next day given their extensive delivery options.
