day rates?

last year i was earning 120 - 170 quid a day. i cant win jobs on even £80 a day this year. ive done loads of quotes and won nothing apart from one where i knocked my price down by 1/3

Keep on trying mate, give us a clue about how you are getting your jobs to quote and from where. Any other clues so we can try and help ?

thanks mate, i do keep trying but have run out of ideas for now.

im what i consider to be a high class tiler; i set out well, get the tiles nice and flat and i finish my jobs to a very high standard and use top quality materials and always tank shower walls etc.
ive gained a good reputation in the tile shops from customers telling them about me. but i feel like none of this means anything to anyone now.

# i advertise in 2 posh glossy mags that go to wealthy areas but no calls from that this year.
# i have business cards everywhere that occasionally get me calls; which is good as its almost free.
# i have written to 120 companies and called most of them lately; got one job from it.
i have a good website PETERBOROUGH TILER / TILING / TILERS - Home page that used to get me loads of calls; ive got none this year from it (feel free to suggest how i can improve it).
# i do leaflet drops in wealthy areas and get about 1 quote per 500 leaflets lol.
# im in with a local building firm and they supply me about 1 weeks work a month

petrol costs
public liability
@that rate your probably left with £85 a day!

agree with you there brian!
tried posting cards throug all the new private housing schemes and it isn't worth the hassle,these people want top quality jobs,cheap prices and done yesterday,prefer "average joe",nice people,tea on tap and plenty of thanks,make work so much more pleasurable!

you've done the obvious ways P'boro, they're not bringing home the bacon, so as Bri and David suggest, go to the less affluent areas, people respect hard work here and pay on time too!
