No I haven't, more prevelant in Sweden Mike?

Dave, yes, Höganäs is Swedish, Kiilto is Finnish and LIP is Danish. All excellent quality.

If I were you I would chose Mapei. Why? Because they are excellent quality adhesives and grouts, they are always competitive on price, and even more importantly, they opened a manufacturing facility in the Midlands in 2004. Even though profits are being sent back to Italy, Mapei is keeping British people gainfully employed, and that is good for the economy (unemployed people usually don't rennovate their homes, which means less work for tilers and other trades).

BAL / Dunlop do likewise, and are owned by Ardex, a German company. They are excellent quality, but are not usually as competitive on price.

Alot boils down to what's available to you within a reasonable distance at a reasonable price.

My usual supplier stocks webber, mapei, Arden and bal so I mainly use webber because it's usually the most competativley priced. That said I've used all the ones I've mentioned with no problems and don't hesitate to get whichever happens to be on offer that month.

I agree with you on the availability front, if there is only a choice of one brand within 30 miles of you then it's a no brainer. However, I don't think that chosing based purely on price, or what's on sale this month, is a very long-sighted strategy. Sooner or later EVERYTHING will be made in China if everyone takes that approach because NO ONE can compete against China on price (are YOU willing to work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for $1 an hour? Can you afford to survive on those wages? Of course not. But they can. And they do).

Also, Weber are French. Why support the French economy when so many Brits are losing their jobs??? Buy British God dammit, otherwise, if you must buy imported stuff, buy Swedish
