Hi there

I've just had a new kitchen put in and am ready to do the tiling. I have question about setting out the wall tiles. I want to tile the area between my worktops and wall units and also the area by my cooker up to the height of my extractor hood. Hopefully you can see the layout from the first image (if I've attached it right)

My issue is that the bottom of the extractor hood is higher than the bottom of the wall units. If I tile up to the extractor hood then I will have different tile heights each side of the archway. If I only tile to the height of the wall units then I think it'll look funny by the cooker. My guess is I tile up to the height of the extractor? If so, then the second image shows the rest of the wall units (the window is opposite the cooker). At what height would I tile the window wall? Level with the bottom of the wall units or level with the bottom of the extractor hood on the opposite wall?

Hope you understand the explanation!

cheers

:welcome:If it was one of my customers, I would say up to the units under the units, then each side of the unit finish the tiles at the top of that tile that finished under the units i.e. if the units are 45cm off the worktops it would be 4.5 tiles high under the units, then either side tile up to 50cm high (last full tile), then keep this high all round the window. When you get to the cooker centre the tiles to the cooker hood and run the extra tiles over the five courses high in line with the edges of the cooker hood with cuts at the edges or full tiles just either side of the cooker if you don't want cuts.

It obviously depends on the size of tiles you decide to go with, I'm assuming here that they are 10x10.

Thank for the responses guys - that makes sense.

Yes, these are 10x10 tiles and you are pretty accurate in estimating 4 and a half tiles between worktop and wall unit. Tilers eye I guess!

The right hand side of the units and worktop only have about a 20mm gap before the left hand side of the archway. I guess I tile to the end of the worktop/units, finish with some trim, and leave this 20mm gap? On the other side I intend to start tiling level with the front of the cooker, not from the arch.

thanks

Thats what i would do. Have the trim finishing on the edge of the worktop. Just make sure the wall unit is in line with this.
