Hi

I am going to install UFH and do the floor tiling in our restoration / extension myself. Its all on a concrete floors. I was however thinking of getting a professional in to do the SLC both to give me a good surface to work off over the UFH and because there will be a hell of a lot of it about 78 square metres in total, two big rooms of 50 and 25 and a bathroom of about 3 square metres. What do you think does that sound sensible or is it easy enough to do your own SLC on this scale ?

if you saw my last post you may be inclined to try it yourself. at least then you can use the correct measures and correct tools. there are some demos on you tube of using spiked roller etc. why not try the bathroom and get a feel for it. if it goes pear shaped you can call in the pros.

Hmm might give the bathroom a go myself. I am worried about being able to mix and spread enough SLC in time to do the big rooms though before it starts setting.

The mapei eco give you about 15 minutes, get someone to mix for you, may give you more time

If you use a good quailty slc and a roller you should have no probs. If I was to give one bit of advice it would be to make sure the floor is primed properly before you pour the slc, otherwise the floor may draw too much moisture out of slc which could cause it to lift.

The big room is about 50 sq metres. I calculate for a 5mm covering of Mapei Latexplan that's 345kg or 14 25kg bags to mix in 15 minutes !

You start at one end of the room and work your way back to a door way doing it in stages not the whole floor at once:smilewinkgrin:

But wont it try and run out into the bit you haven't done yet and thus be less than 5mm thick ?

Slc has a certain amount of body to it and won't suddenly spread everywhere, it will flow when you trowel it out, Even if a edge of slc stiffens a bit the next lot is easily joined to the existing
