Ok, so if I score the area to be tiled and then prime with Mapei Primer G or BAL ADP I should be ok?

I really didn't realise you couldn't tile straight on top of emulsion. I kinda feel silly because we painted the walls BEFORE tiling, well, partly.

It seems very odd to me that it's considered OK for plasterers to use PVA prior to skimming a wall, but then a tiler who comes along afterwards and wouldn't use PVA.

Surely the same principle applies?

I ended up buying some BAL primer. I tried to get as much emulsion off as possible, but it was taking too long so I heavily scored it and primed both bare plaster and scored emulsion as directed.

It's amazing the number who tile suppliers who don't stock any kind of primer but sell everything else! I went to 4 shops before I got hold of some.

The fact that hardly anyone stocks it tells me, not many DIYers will be using it!

Actually i rarely use Bal so you need to do your home work and if the years decide who is right or wrong then my 31 years should settle it....but i doubt it....as i say you carry on with the PVA.

Neale u r very respect by many on the forum and ur word is religion in my eyes thank u:thumbsup:

sorry i did not mean you i meant the forum. it has recomended TOPPS TILES for advise and materials in the past.like i stated i use wat ever the manufacter recomends but mainly sbr but just saying a lot rec PVA .

Some members would have recommended them, some wouldn't. It's a forum. Just like out there in the real world there are different opinions.

You'll get about the same % of the fixers on here supporting various companies just like on-the-job too, so you'll see a lot of Topps mentioned as they're the UK's largest tile store, and a lot of BAL mentioned as over 50% of the pro tilers in the UK use it.

Though we have support and representatives from Mapei, Weber, BAL, Larsen (though haven't posted for some time) and a few randoms like that lass from Johnsons Adhesive.

So please be steady when pointing that finger as one members comments isn't the view of the whole forum.
