I estimated a job where the customer wanted 330mm x 330mm ceramics in a straight set pattern on his kitchen floor. He changed his mind though and now has 300mm x 600mm porcelain tiles which are being laid in brickbond.

My question is do I charge more for the porcelain? I won't charge anymore for the brick bond because it doesn't take any longer. I quoted £30 per sq m in the original estimate.

I should charge more for the size of the tiles because they are fookin heavy. lol:teeth_smile:

I would charge more, usually £5 on top of my ceramic price, so in other works, porcelain on floors £25.00p. With a brick bond pattern, if the room is staggered I'd charge a bit more on top of that becauce theres more time involved in the setting out, wet cuts etc.

Did a kitchen last week, 14m2 , three areas of the floor, 2 days £400.00p with materials.

Why do people think floors should be more expensive to lay ?

Their easier to do than walls, large format tile means you only lay half as many, maybe even less than that compared to some tile sizes, and you have no chance of them sliding of the blinking walls like a wall tile, lol , but still, people think they need to charge extra for doing a far easier job...

Quite baffling really :)

I charge more for floors because generally you have to ply them first. Also because it seems to be the general rule of thumb
