i take a deposit if it is a big job

I only take a deposit on materials ,if it's a big bill,but very rarely .
I like to pay my lads as I go along out of my pocket then when I get paid,

I remember one time I received a text from a customer cancelling job the day I was meant to be starting, I had just picked her tiles up from the shop. I had to u turn and take them back. Yes, I take a deposit, job was worth about 700 quid.

If a job is just addy, grout, trim and Silicon I don't bother with a deposit, if there are tiles, UFH etc involved, I get the full amount of the tiles/UFH as a deposit.

I think by demanding a deposit, it also reassures a customer that you are serious about what you do and that you value your own time. I've never had any problem, maybe the GP find this reassuring who knows?

I don't take deposits on jobs only needing adhesive, primer, grout, trims etc. But when I am buying tiles/matting or Backer board then I make sure the deposit covers most of these three listed.
Or M2 is over 50 then I ask for a small deposit to cover some of the adhesive.

I have never had or experienced a problem with a job pulling out, but I may start taking deposits on jobs over 2 days worth of labour... secures me from holes in the diary I guess .

So if you had a small job to do let's say 18m2 bathroom you are only supplying the adhesive grout and trim what deposit would you want and when could you book me in as in what is the first available dat you can start from today??

only on big jobs will I take a deposit, or customer you think are going to mess me about, as iv'e said before if you do this job long enough you get good at reading people...
