Do you take a deposit?

I think by demanding a deposit, it also reassures a customer that you are serious about what you do and that you value your own time. I've never had any problem, maybe the GP find this reassuring who knows?

I have never had or experienced a problem with a job pulling out, but I may start taking deposits on jobs over 2 days worth of labour... secures me from holes in the diary I guess .

It's wise mate, it shown you respect your own time I guess.
So if you had a small job to do let's say 18m2 bathroom you are only supplying the adhesive grout and trim what deposit would you want and when could you book me in as in what is the first available dat you can start from today??

only on big jobs will I take a deposit, or customer you think are going to mess me about, as iv'e said before if you do this job long enough you get good at reading people...

It surprises me the amount of bods that supply TILES.

I have always said to customers......they get the tiles, and sometimes I will pick them up.

I take a deposit for every job. It's written into my terms & conditions.
25% on confirmation of start date (covering materials)
Additional 25% on commencement of works
Remaining 50% on completion
My customers know where we all stand as the t&c's cover them too and what my obligations are to them and what they can expect from me. Peace of mind all round.

Why are you surprised CJ. I send my customers to my supplier. They see tiles that cost them £1000 retail, I get 35% and give 15 of it to my customer. They pay £850 and I get £200 for doing very little. Trust me, it's easier than working for a living.

Over the period of a year it can pay for a nice holiday thank you very much!!!!

I always supply tiles when I can, I can make 15/20% on them, just tell them to go and pick a tile from the tile shops I use, then I give them a discount, normally 15% then leave it all to me I order them, and pick them up, wouldn't be doing that though if I wasn't making anything on them..
