Interestingly, have now spoken to two local tilers who are advocating 6mm ply as being "normal" on a new green chipboard floor.

wrong, totally wrong. if the chipboard floor is not secure i.e. it bounces off all over the place, 6mm ply will do nothing to help. please don't listen to them.

ask them to show you in the bs5385 where it states that 6mm ply is ok to tile on to.

hi simon been reading thru your posts and alot of the advice you have been given is just plain rubbish.....NOT the advice on here.........but the advice from the builder and local tilers. If you want my advice due to the materials needed and the complexity of the tiling you are considering........polished porcs
glass mosiacs embedded within field tiles (mosiacs are usually thinner/thicker than field tiles so morethan one trowel needed plus the cost of materials....I would be inclined to ask for a qoute from a trusted tiler from the forum.
