Sat in a que of traffic yesterday, when i noticed the oil light was on, and when i turned the radio down I could hear this horrible clanking sound.
Apparently when the oil pump pack in the rest of the engin dont like it, basicly its buggared.

Been to work today on me bike, thats just about killed me off. But I'm going to look at 2 vans at the weekend. A Vauxhall Vivaro on a 7 plate, and a Nissan Primastar on a 8 plate. I know they are basicy the same van, but what do you guys think.. The vivaro as 2 side doors, so that must be a bonus.

If the mileage is 80k + be very careful with those vans, the gear boxes are known to have issues. Also, I've just had to have the clutch done in mine, £700. That's all it's cost me in 2 1/2 years so I can't moan too much.

All the guy at the garage said was with no oil going around the engine it not really worth repairing it, but it would be a new engine, probably turbo as well.

Sorry doug, I dont get the Norman Tebbitt bit, but if its to do with the push bike, at the time i was thinking Bradley Wiggins.

Phil I am in the same boat atm going looking for a Transit in the morning, I was warned off the Vauxhall and the Nissan, by a mechanic mate. Good luck.

Nissan engines are solid, I've got one and it runs like a dream Phil

Just got 61 plate caddy, it's a beaut. Considered a bigger van but bigger van means I'll carry more crap and use more fuel. Caddy is great on juice and big enough to carry my clobber.

Wish I was a pound behind you Phil. It's gonna be painful paying for it but ill get a good chunk back of the taxman and they have a good residual value so will get a good return when I renew next time. Plus it probably saves me £10 to £15 a week in fuel.

Now if the Vauxhall Vivaro has the same engine as my trusty Vectra (1.9cdti, I think they're the same engine in the cars as in the vans) then you won't go wrong. My vectra ticked over 150,000 miles the other month. The only big thing I've had to do to it in 18 months is a new alternator and battery. The rest was down to wear and tear (blubs, tyres etc). Mine has got a comprehensive service history so I can see everything else that has been done. The AA man who came to rescue me when I burst a tyre in my Corsa was driving a Vivaro and he said it was by far the best van he'd ever driven. Fuel economy was great.

It is the 1.9 engines in the Vivaro, Trafic and Primastar range that were the problem. The 2.0ltr engines are fine.

Fair enough. I'm just saying I've never had a problem with my diesel engine that appears to be the same engine in the Vivaro.

It would be a different Gearbox on the vans though and thats where most issue are concerned .

Well gearboxes are a different matter entirely. I was talking about the engine. I won't bother commenting again. Buy a VW Phil.

If anybody is interested in Transit vans, take a look at this Assets for sale Ask for Colin Campbell if you call, he's a good bloke, totally genuine and honest.

I have been asking about vans lately and it seems nothing is bullet proof, not even VW. Out of all the people I have asked who do have 1st hand knowledge of these vehicles, the Trafic comes out top or if you can afford the VW then the transporter is the best long term buy.
Of course this is if you buy new, buying used is a whole new ball game.

I think youv'e hit the nail on the head there sir ramic, spoke to loads of people, they all have different views on which van to get, TBH my head is fried at the moment, and i need to get one sorted for monday

The VW's are undoubtedly the best van build wise but, are they worth all that cash? I don't think so, you could buy 2 trafic/vivaro/primastar for the money they cost and there is no way they are twice as good.
