Expansion fields

Hi all ,
Whats the current consensus on size of fields in a large 400m² floor , no UFH , screed , pretty much one large area , porc tiles?

I'm thinking of going around 7 x 7 or 8 x 8 using Schluter exp' bar or similar .

I always though 5 meters was the rule of thumb, but so much has changed since I was fitting that it could be completely different these days.

I think BS is 10 x 10 max but adjusted for diffo situations.

Expansion joints should be incorporated by deviding large tiled areas into bays every 8-10 linear metres or when a change in the substrate occours. A 10mm gap should also be left around the edge of the perimeter of the room to be tiled.

when we did the m&s floor that was 5000m2, 600x600 porc we did it 36 m2 bays , according to the drawing also there was a strucual movement joint through the centre of the floor

From what I know about 20-25 m2.surface is permitted.That means every 5 square meters.

It used to be 8 to 10 mtr run no ufh and with ufh 4 to 6 mtr run....

I normally put them every 7-8 metres

also found this... ANSI, under section A108.01, 2005-3.7 together with common industry practice, recommends expansion joints in tile installations at the following distances:

• Interior applications require joints at 24-32 feet on center
• Exterior applications or interior in direct sunlight require joints at 8-12 feet on center.
