Will finish my first paying job today after 4 days hard graft :)
Reckon i under priced it by about £150 but will learn.
Anyway looks real nice, en suite with 300 x 600 ceramics with a un polished travetine mosaic border running through it.
Grout up today and im done, bloke said last night "this looks amazing" so really chuffed with myself atm :)
Just thought i would let you know :)

Will do, has nothing fitted in there atm, as in toilet etc etc, so bloke said he will gimme a ring when all are installed so i can get some good pics.
Been a bloody nerve racking week, pulling up outside his house each morning with crazy thoughts "what if the tiles have fell off over night" :)
Another thing i have given him a price but i have used a lot more addy than i planned because some of the walls were well out so was back buttering tiles alot, should i mention this and charge a little extra?

Yeah, I would put it down to experiance with it being your first propper job, but I would tell the customer that

"I have had to use quite a good bit more adhesive to level out the walls than I had quoted for, but I won't charge the extra"

or similar, and you'll probably make a happy customer even more happier.

Out of interest, did you quote or estimate ?

Good PR Adam, don't ask for extra money now ,but in future mention it as you are doing the job and that you will supply extra gear at trade cost

Exactly, further down the line start saying that... nice tip Gaz, will use that myself :)

penno, you say you have probably undercharged by £150, that can't all be adhesive is it ?, or did the job take longer than you worked out it would too ?

Including that "lost" £150, aslong as you have still made a semi decent profit out of it, it's still been a win win sitiuation.

2 ways new tilers can look at this sitiuation.

Ask\demand for the extra costs, hard if you have quoted mind you, and probably turn a 100% satisfied customer into "well he did a good job but charged loads more than he told me it would cost", so satisfaction has dropped through the floor really, but you might get your £150, or say as I said before and with such a happy customer he will probably recommend you, you get other jobs out of it, and they then recommend you, it can be a massive snowball effect which in time could net you a lot of jobs, and a lot of profit, but all that potential can be lost by upping the price to get your £150.

lol penno...no exactly how you feel!!
i was pretty lucky with my first job...got gaz from tops to help me out ..i was still abit nervous ...but watching gaz tackle the customer and how he approached the job helped me out alot for the next job on my own...

Pricing jobs up is pretty nerve racking too..but managed to get the customer to feel happy with the price...
although me and gaz had a chuckle
customer wants me to do his bathroom next year says he can't quite afford it this year so fingers crossed with that one...
