First job

Hello everyone I've just done my first job for a member of my family,its a kitchen splash back, Ive got some pictures here for you, all constructive criticism very welcome.

er sorry mate but to be honest i would't pay for that job, your bonds are all over the place in between the cooker hood, the bond dosn't continue in the corners, and you haven't protected the worktops......sorry just being honest..

The notched trowel seemed a big size for that size tile and surface protection missing, if that was a Granite work top there could've been hell to pay...

no lippage,looks ok,but like has been said your bond is well out,but for a 1st time its ok,everybody has to start somewhere,and who better to practice on and make mistakes than your family 😉

Yes you have lost the bond but general quality looks ok..

Agree on the towel depth when using tubbed adhesive... and jesus get some bloody dust sheets.. 🙂🙂

She had brought all the materials already and only wanted to go 4 tiles high and as for the dust sheets, very big mistake on my part I'm afraid and thanks for all the mistake pointers I'm taking them all on board, oh and the job was a freebie.

as above and also you should Silicon round the bottom of the tiles rather than grout

Do not be discouraged tho mate. All good points above, agree with all the guys above but for your first job you should still be happy. And good on you for having the balls to post pics of your first job and ask for criticism from a grout of the pickiest perfectionists on the web :lol:

it seems schoolboy errors you done there, maybe you should try get some more experience with a pro before you move onto bigger jobs or ask here, there'll be plenty of people to advise you how to get a good finish (and prep) to the job.

Keep at it.......practice makes perfect.........just not on paid jobs though. Offer your services to a pro to gain experience. You will learn more in a day than you will find out yourself by trial & error in a month.

You need to practice putting the adhesive on the wall.

As already said grout lines, corners, dust sheets on work top, the socket is only half on the tiles in one pic, adhesive needs to be neater, i also noticed you started straight off the worktop with the tiles, you can run into trouble doing this as quite often worktops aren't level but i noticed there was a level in some pics so i asume you checked this before you started, looks like you started from the side wall i always start from the middle of the hood to make sure the corners are right. Doesn't look like you primed the walls first so i would read up on priming too

Not a bad first go at all, always room to learn no matter how good you are.
I've seen some shocking jobs from so called pros and this one isn't no where near them ! lol

Good effort and take on board what the guys have said about you bond pattern (if you have two 3rds of a tile on the right then 'wrap' the other 3rd round the corner so you only use 1 tile rather than having a full tile then next to it is a two 3rds of a tile etc...)

Spend some time setting the next one out too. It looks like you've found the centre of the cooker and drawn a line down there, but then started to tile randomly and neither of the vertical brick bond joints are on that centre line.

Take it all on board though and keep up the practise.

hi, i,d say i would leave 2mm gap between granite worktop and tile (would not stick first tile straight on worktop. But good job for first time.
