It is and just ignore the remarks made.

It is better to ask than do it and get it wrong and liable for a law suit.

You'll have to toughen up a bit to survive in the real world if you are upset at some of the posts!
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and some are passionate about our industry and this could cloud their judgement and response.
Your only concern is to make sure you provide your customer with the best possible job using the best methods and best materials available.
To that end your thread has indicated a lack of basic knowledge which we at the Tilers Forum are more than happy to help with.
Take the advice on offer and within a short period of time you will be among the first to help the next with their 1st paying job.

Your right Tartantiler we do all have to start somewhere. You need advise hand have come to the right place to get it so your doing ok so far!

Its a shame the course didnt cover more on the different adhesives and theirs uses. But what they didnt teach you perhaps you can learn here.

With regards to the grey flooring upstairs, are you sure its ply and not chipboard? If its new build it could be Safedeck which is a waterproofed chipboard which has had some discussion on here recently and decided it wasnt suitable to tile on directly. You would need to overlay it with a backer board. You could try and ask the homeowner tif they knw what it is. It wont make you sound like a novice as it sound as though it could be a new product.
