FIRST POST. FIRST "biggish" JOB. MARBLE.

Thankyou buddy, that makes more sence, I was thinking it was going to take forever the otherway round, and as I work cleanly I'm sure everything will be fine.

I've seen your van around, I only live in Sandbach. I hope that work is going well for you & if you ever need a dogs body... 😛

I've had my first look at the tiles today & started organizing them into cuts ect. They are quite nice, but some of them are 1-2mm thicker than others, I plan on back buttering them to bring them level, is this ok? I also plan on a 2mm grout line, can anyone see any problems with this?

Use the thickest first and work down to the thinner ones, a 2mm line is fine so long as all the tiles are the same size and you feel confident of maintaining the grout line, check the tiles for size first.

I always go 2 mm for floors.

If your confident with a 2mm joint go for it.
if not, maybe set a few out for your parents showing a 3mm joint and if you get their approval, you're sorted.
Good luck

well guys, seeing as you've all been so helpfull i thought you would also like to see some progress!!

This is what was under the carpet and lino, it goes all the way through the house! took a full days work to get it up. Cleaned as much of the bitumen off as I could. Also had the toilet and sink taken out and took off all of the existing skirting boards.

I then primed the substrate and started installing the 6mm instillation boards from Uheat. I tried to lay them in such a way that there are as little joins as possible in the heavily trafficked areas. I ordered enough adhesive to lay this and the tiles, however I realise now I should have ordered gray to do this as the white adhesive is more expensive. :mad2:

Today is the day for UFH instillation. I also get to play with my new Fien Multimaster soon to nip off the bottom of the architraves.

Any criticism & comments welcome.

I go for 2mm , a small joint sets you apart from the rest . Marble looks great i have it in my bathroom at home,it does scratch easy though

I always put a sluury coat on bitchum ,acyric primer/leveling compound gives a great key

Its the adhesive, I rang Uheat as forgot to buy the joining tape and was told that the joining tape they supply is just scrim tape, he also said to work the adhesive into it, so thats what I did, although probably abit excessively!
